Carpet

How often should I vacuum my carpet?

Installing new carpet in your home is a large investment and your carpet should be maintained appropriately. Protect your investment by also investing in a good vacuum and use it as often as possible. Please note that carpet warranties aren’t applicable to hallways and stairs because of the heavy traffic, so vacuuming these areas more often will help with appearance retention. Please be careful what vacuum you use. Some vacuums (such as a Dyson) have been known to have too much suction and actually pull the carpet out of the backing which is not covered by carpet manufacturers' warranties. Please click here to see if your vacuum is approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute. Also, if your carpet is long or "shag"- like please use a suction only vacuum because a beater bar will ruin the long tufts. If you have more specific questions please call us.

How often should I clean my carpets?

Again, a new carpet is a major investment and should be properly cared for to maintain its appearance. Carpet manufacturers require that you deep clean your carpets every 12-18 months to maintain your warranty. Please click here to see what your carpet manufacturer requires and their preferred method for cleaning. Most manufacturers recommend "truck-mounted hot water extraction" but please check first with us or go here to research this yourself.

Why is my carpet lying down on my stairs and hallways?

Again, all wear and texture warranties are void in heavy traffic areas, halls, and stairs. Carpet is amazing, but at the end of the day, it is still a fiber/fabric type material. In those high traffic areas, your best bet is to vacuum more often. Also, it's important to have high-traffic areas professionally cleaned every 3 to 6 months instead of the minimum of every 18 months that carpet manufacturers require to keep their warranties.

What is a "Dye Lot ''?

Each time a product such as carpet is made at the mill it is called a run. Each “run'' made at the mill has a slightly different color shading because the products/dyes used cannot be exactly duplicated each time. The dye lot is unique every time that carpet is made. Those of you who knit or sew will understand this completely. We want to make sure that all carpet in your house is the same dye lot whenever possible.

Do you sell area rugs?

We offer rug binding and can take any carpet we sell and turn it into a custom area rug for you. It is a great way to get the exact size area rug that you need, and something that will coordinate well with your current home and decor. Feel free to contact us for information on creating your personalized area rug.

Do the product(s) I choose have a Warranty?

All manufacturer warranties apply to the products we sell. Some manufacturers do require certain things like having your carpets cleaned periodically to keep the warranty valid, so please ask us for the warranty information that applies to your specific products. Click here to view the warranty options.

Can you get trackless carpeting?

Carpet has become softer and softer over the years and because of that, when carpet moves, it will show vacuum marks. This is not a defect. Truly trackless carpet tends to be looped berbers that are stiff, and the nap of the carpet will not move to show footprints or vacuum marks. Those may not be the most popular styles right now but will work well in some applications. Just remember if you want your carpet soft, you will see vacuum and footprints.

Will I be able to see a seam in my carpet?

Our installers are very talented and do great work. Please keep in mind that whenever you put two pieces of material together, for example in clothing, or in this case with carpet, it is possible to see a seam. Seams will be more apparent with lower profile carpets that are often referred to as looped Berbers, Loop Cut Loop (LCL), or patterned carpets. They can also be more visible in tighter, pulled down plush and Saxony type carpets. Frieze carpet styles are the least likely to show seams. We do our best to make all seams as invisible as possible. We also lay your carpet out to manage the balance of seaming your carpet excessively versus not at all. We don't want you to have to purchase excess carpet unnecessarily. The following is from CRI - Carpet and Rug Institute about seams:

Proper Seam Characteristics

With any seaming method, a properly constructed seam:

  • has cleanly trimmed edges properly secured with edge/seam sealer
  • has tightly abutted edges without gaps or overlaps
  • maintains reasonable pattern match where applicable
  • will not be invisible

Do you have inventory?

We do keep some carpet and pad in our warehouse, but most products are delivered directly to us from the manufacturer. We are able to stock-specific items for you depending on what your needs are for your projects. Also, if you plan on making multiple purchases in a relatively short amount of time, we are more than happy to negotiate purchasing items in bulk just for you and your particular needs.

Is there a smell associated with hardwood stain and finish?

Unfortunately, there are smells associated with hardwood finishes and stains. There is not a way around that, and it is part of the process. Some people are more affected by the smells than others, so please be aware of this. Opening windows and circulating fresh air helps, but there will always be a smell associated with the finishes and stains. The smell will diminish in time. It is not permanent. Most people find in 1-3 days that it doesn't bother them or they don’t notice it as much, but everyone reacts to the smells differently. During the actual finishing of hardwood floors, pets and animals (i.e. cats, dogs, fish, etc.) need to be relocated and some plants can even react adversely to the finish as well. The finish can kill pets and plants. When in doubt, take them out of the house. If you are overly sensitive to things like this please discuss it with us.....You might need to stay out of the house longer or take further precautions. Each person is different, and we cannot be held responsible for any allergic reactions to hardwood stains and finishes.

How long does it take to get my order?

Most products are usually 1–2 weeks out. A lot of products are stocked locally by manufacturers and can be picked up the same day that they are ordered. Please note, freight is an inexact science, so sometimes it takes a little longer but we try our best to give you accurate information. Orders are sometimes unexpectedly delayed due to weather and other things that are out of our control. If it snows in Georgia where most carpet mills are, the world stops for them and shipping is delayed. We will always let you know if something of this nature arises, and will work to correct it as quickly as possible.

Who do you sell to?

We gladly sell to builders and homeowners. If you plan on multiple residential purchases this year, please take the time to fill out a credit application with us.

Do you sell major name brands?

Yes, we carry most major name brands. We have better relationships with some brands than others (resulting in better pricing for you) so feel free to call us or stop by.

Can I get more flooring to match what I already have?

Most likely, as long as your particular style has not been discontinued. There can sometimes be dye lot issues, meaning your product may not exactly match newly manufactured products of the same style and type. We can help determine if there will be any problems with matching your existing product, and will be sure to thoroughly research the product you have in mind before moving forward with a quote.

Are Designers/Decorators available?

We can recommend design or decorating services that are available for an additional fee. Because you will be living with your purchase, you are often your own best designer, and we will work with you to create the most attractive and practical design solutions for your home and/or business. Our sales team has a sharp eye for the most up to date design trends as well as a deep understanding of timeless style traditions.

I found a hair in my hardwood finish or a spec of dust, why is that?

Don't panic. Hardwood manufacturers have a standard that if you can't see something from a standing position then it is well within range of a good job. That being said, things can float to the ground after we leave- please don't scratch or pick it out. With normal cleaning, sweeping, and vacuuming these things will come out on their own. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have any concerns, we will work to resolve any issues that may arise both during and after the project.

Should I use a polish product on my hardwood from the grocery store or a grocery carpet cleaner?

Please don't use these products, a polish product from a grocery store will make your floor look good initially but over time builds up and leaves a mess that is hard to fix later. Also, most grocery store carpet cleaning spotters tend to leave a sticky residue and overall don't work that great. We have solutions for both, so please talk to us and we can get you products that actually work and are recommended by manufacturers.

Granite is a natural product and because of that it has imperfection to it, which is part of the beauty of it

Quarried marble, granite, and other natural stones by nature have conditions that cannot be controlled, i.e. color, size, veins, fissures, and thickness etc. All-natural stone products offered have been cut from carefully selected blocks that were cut directly from mountains around the world. As a natural product, the stone may contain small to medium naturally occurring imperfections which are characteristic of the material. These imperfections may include, but are not limited to, color and shade variations, geological flaws, irregular markings, voids, veins, or fissures which resemble cracks yet are not. It is standard industry practice to repair these imperfections by one or more of the following methods: waxing, filling or rodding. These imperfections are part of the beauty of the natural stone and will not impair the function or wearing qualities of the material. Seams might not match perfectly from one side to the other because granite is a natural rock product, and not man-made.

Will you move my dishwasher?

Most often it isn't necessary to move a dishwasher with new kitchen flooring and it is usually best to leave it in place. We will be sure to go under the front feet so your dishwasher can still be serviced or repaired. If you want your new flooring installed under your dishwasher that is great, however, you will need to take care of that personally or hire a licensed and insured plumber or other properly insured and licensed professional to take care of things like that for you.

Are your installers subcontractors or employees?

We hire subs for approximately half of our carpet installs and do our own work for all other projects. Due to the high volume of carpet work, it is often more efficient and cost-effective to have subs handle our carpet jobs. We handle all product ordering and install scheduling (and repairs if needed) so that you are able to relax and enjoy your new space. If you would prefer to have us personally do the install we will do so happily!

  • Our tile work is done by our master tile setter Shawn and his crew, you will be fascinated by the craftsmanship and dedication to perfection he brings to every job.
